Migraines

Head

Throbbing pain, often on one side, sometimes with sensitivity to light or sound or an aura beforehand, and underneath it a neck or jaw tightness that is easy to overlook. Migraines often carry that muscular component alongside everything else.

What it is

Migraines have complex causes, and muscular trigger points in the neck, scalp, and jaw are best understood as possible contributing factors rather than the whole story. For some people, tension in these muscles seems to feed into the pattern, even though it is not the only thing going on.

What makes it worse

Your own known triggers, neck tension, jaw clenching, ongoing stress, and disrupted sleep can all play into it. People often notice the muscular side flares during tight, stressful, poorly slept stretches.

How PNMT helps

Your therapist assesses the muscular contributors and treats precisely where they are found, working on muscles like the suboccipitals, cervical group, and temporalis, guided by your feedback. This work is meant to run alongside your existing migraine care, not replace it, and your therapist will coordinate or refer if the pattern is not primarily muscular. If the picture points to something that is not muscular, your therapist will say so and refer you on.

What to expect & how long

This work complements medical management of migraines rather than standing in for it. The early visits are partly about reading whether the muscular contribution is meaningful for you, and only then does it become clear how many more would help; your therapist will be honest if the work does not seem to be making a difference rather than keep you booking.

What clients say

Sarah helped me greatly with tightness in my jaw, head, and neck resulting in tension headaches and migraines. I barely get headaches now with her treatment. I can't thank her enough!

Al and Sarah have returned to me my neck, shoulder, and back range of motion, relieved me of migraines, and gotten me to a place where I have begun exercising again. I had no idea some of the problem areas I had were simply muscle issues. I thought for sure I had chronic vertebrae and bone issues. Nope! Feel so much younger and stronger and freer!

I went to SomaVida regularly for nearly two years for relief from migraines. Sarah helped with my pain and was great to work with. She was always professional, accommodating and friendly. I referred friends and family to her and would still be seeing her if I lived in Chicago.
