Neck Pain
Turning to check a blind spot, your neck stiffens and stops short, or by mid-afternoon an ache has crept up from your shoulders into the base of your skull. Neck pain has a way of building quietly through an ordinary day.
What it is
Neck pain is one of the most common things people bring to a therapist, and most of the time it is muscular. Desk work, screen posture, an old whiplash or injury, and steady low-grade tension load the deep cervical flexors, scalenes, levator scapulae, and upper trapezius until they ache and guard. The muscle that hurts is not always the one driving it.
What makes it worse
It tends to flare with long stretches at a screen, cradling a phone against your shoulder, stress that quietly tightens everything, and a sleep position that leaves the neck cranked. Many people notice it eases when they move and change posture often, and stiffens after sitting still.
How PNMT helps
Your therapist starts with your pain history, then measures cervical range of motion and tests muscles one at a time to find which are actually producing your pain rather than just feeling tight, whiplash patterns included. Treatment is precise work on the confirmed source muscles, guided by your feedback until the referral is reproduced, not broad heavy pressure. If the picture points to a disc, nerve root, or other non-muscular cause, your therapist will say so and refer you on.
What to expect & how long
Your therapist checks how far you can turn and look up at the start and end of a visit, giving both of you a shared marker to work from. Your feedback steers the work the whole way through. This is collaborative, not done to you. A freer turn often shows up early, while the fuller, hold-it-there ease in everyday positions tends to build over a run of focused work as the deeper guarding muscles let go.
What clients say
I was not sure how effective trigger point work could be long term for my persistent jaw and neck issues. Let me tell you…it works and it LASTS. I went from having daily headaches and near-constant neck tension to those two issues becoming rare events. Jackie is fantastic and set my treatment plan effectively. David…can’t say enough good things. He’s kind, exacting in his approach, and puts you at ease. And did I mention this treatment works? So happy I gave this a try. I can’t recommend Somavida highly enough.
Al and Sarah have returned to me my neck, shoulder, and back range of motion, relieved me of migraines, and gotten me to a place where I have begun exercising again. I had no idea some of the problem areas I had were simply muscle issues. I thought for sure I had chronic vertebrae and bone issues. Nope! Feel so much younger and stronger and freer!
Best massage and pain relief I’ve ever had. Yu was an amazing therapist who really cared and listened. She helped my neck and back with a long term injury and gave me hope that it might actually be treatable. Highly skilled and knowledgeable, couldn’t recommend more. Life changing.
