Limited Range of Motion

Neck

You reach for a high shelf, turn to look behind you, or tip your head back and the movement simply stops before it should, with stiffness or a catch at the end. The limit is the thing you notice most.

What it is

When motion is restricted, specific muscles are frequently holding the brakes on, shortened, guarded, or splinting after an injury. Measuring range of motion is central to how PNMT works, which makes a movement that stops short one of the clearest things to assess and track.

What makes it worse

Restriction often deepens with disuse after an injury, with protective guarding that outlasts the original problem, and with long sustained postures that keep a muscle in one shortened position. The less the joint moves, the more the pattern tends to entrench.

How PNMT helps

Your therapist measures the restricted motion before, during, and after the work, so the measurement itself becomes the benchmark for progress. Treatment is precise work on the specific muscles testing as the limiters, guided by your feedback rather than broad pressure. If the restriction points to a joint or structural cause rather than muscle, your therapist will say so and refer you on.

What to expect & how long

Because the motion itself is the measure here, you tend to feel the give in how far you can move from one visit to the next. Your therapist builds a plan aimed at restoring fuller, more comfortable movement. The more recently the restriction set in, the fewer visits it usually asks for; motion that has been locked down for a long time generally needs a longer run of focused work to free up.

What clients say

I came in to Somavida with some pretty profound limitations, but even after my first appointment they had helped me to significantly increase my range of motion and ease my discomfort. Their team is so professional and supportive, highly knowledgeable and they really emphasize a patient-led treatment. An all around excellent experience, I will continue to use Somavida in the future for all of my body maintenance!

Al and Sarah have returned to me my neck, shoulder, and back range of motion, relieved me of migraines, and gotten me to a place where I have begun exercising again. I had no idea some of the problem areas I had were simply muscle issues. I thought for sure I had chronic vertebrae and bone issues. Nope! Feel so much younger and stronger and freer!
