Plantar Fasciitis

Legs & Feet Restorative Skills

Those first few steps out of bed land like a stab in the heel or arch, the pain eases as you get moving, then comes back the moment you stand up after sitting a while.

What it is

Plantar fasciitis is tension and irritation through the plantar fascia along the bottom of the foot, but the foot is rarely working alone. The calf, the tibialis posterior, and the small intrinsic muscles of the foot are usually part of the chain feeding into that tension.

What makes it worse

It typically worsens with the first steps after rest, with long stretches of standing or walking on hard floors, in unsupportive shoes, and when the calves are tight.

How PNMT helps

Your therapist starts with your pain history, then looks at the whole lower chain rather than the heel alone, calf flexibility, foot alignment, and careful palpation of the plantar fascia and the muscles feeding it. Treatment is precise work on the contributing muscles, guided by your feedback until the familiar pain reproduces, not heavy pressure on the sore spot. If the picture suggests something other than a muscular contribution, your therapist will refer you for the right kind of care.

What to expect & how long

Your therapist re-checks the foot and calf at each visit so you can follow the change instead of guessing at it, and between sessions the MELT Method soft-ball foot work taught through Restorative Skills can help you hold progress. Most people need more than one or two visits before the morning steps reliably ease; a short series of focused sessions is the usual picture for something this stubborn.

What clients say

Sarah is amazing! She is both kind and great at helping to resolve chronic pain. My TMJ has improved so much with her care.

I've been going to soma vida for around 4-5 years. I think at this point for neuromuscular therapy. My coworker recommended it for my back pain. I mostly make appts with Yu, but I think I've had appts with everyone there atleast once. The treatment can be painful but I always come out feeling so light and so much better than before. I've had chronic neck pain from my desk job and other pain in areas that is only fixed by whatever they do here. They truly care about you and want to make sure you leave feeling better.

I've been going to Somavida for years because they are the only place I've found with the right combination of expertise and ability to eliminate pain when I have muscle pulls or strains, and help me stay “tuned up” to avoid future injuries. I spend most of my time working behind a desk and Somavida is a critical part of helping me stay healthy and out of injury from my strained neck and back. I personally work with Yu Suzuki and she is phenomenal. Truly a “pain detective” that has helped me find the root issue with muscle problems countless times. This is a place to come and heal and avoid future injury without medication or judgment. Can’t recommend Somavida enough!!!
